Carol Jean Nelson, 90, of rural Cummings, ND, died on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Luther Memorial Home where she had been a resident since August 15th. She couldn’t be happier to spend her first Christmas in Heaven. Carol was born May 4, 1927 at the home of her parents, Carl and Ethel (Anderson) Nelson. She attended grade school at Ervin #3, a two room school in Cummings and graduated from Mayville High School in 1945, then went to Mayville State Teachers College for two years. She taught 2nd grade at Hillsboro, Carrington and Hunter until 1959 when her father died. She then returned home to be with her mother. Carol helped out on the farm, did housekeeping for 4 families in Mayville and then worked as a Dietary Aide at Luther Memorial Home for 27 years. Carol was a charter member of the Cummings Evangelical Free Church where she was active in ministries there. She never married. Carol is survived by 2 brothers: Ellsworth (Audrey) of Cummings and Morris of Camarillo, CA; nephews: Wayne (Shirley), Lowell (Cindy) and Michael (Susan); a niece: Barbara (Sterling) Volla. There are 14 great grand nieces and nephews and 5 great great grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and a nephew: Rick Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be directed to: Luther Memorial Home, 750 east Main in Mayville, ND 58257 or Riverside Evangelical Free Church, 814 Main St West, Mayville, ND 58257. Memorial Service: will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville, ND, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial: Will be in the Carlson Cemetery in Cummings, ND.
