William Clifford Julson, Jr, 78, of Mayville, ND died November 11, 2017 at St Mary’s Hospital, in Rochester, MN. William Clifford Julson Jr., was born on January 16, 1939 in Leeds, ND, to Clifford and Alice (Youtzy) Julson. Willie was one of six children, and lived in Leeds throughout his childhood and high school years. He participated in basketball and football and graduated from Leeds High School in 1957. During the years that followed, Willie married his high school sweetheart, Karen (Holmes) Julson, in August of 1960. They moved to Hunter, ND where Karen taught first grade while Willie received his Bachelor of Science from Mayville State College in 1963. Willie dedicated his professional life to education upon graduation and completed his Master of Science in Education at North Dakota State University in 1971. Willie left his mark around the state of North Dakota in his years teaching and serving in administrative roles as a high school principal and superintendent. He taught mathematics in Fessenden (1963-1967) and Casselton (1967-1972), was a principal in Rugby (1972-1976), and was the Superintendent of Schools at Linton (1976-1980) and at Mayville-Portland CG where he stayed until his retirement in 2004. Upon retirement, Willie and Karen enjoyed splitting their time between Arizona and North Dakota. Willie has always been an active and outgoing individual. His passion for people and sports served him well in his education career, where he rarely missed a school or community event. Willie was well known in all of the communities in which he lived for having a passion for golf. Many hours were spent on golf courses in North Dakota and various other states playing with friends and playing in tournaments. Willie not only played golf, but he also coached golf for many years at the high school level. During retirement, when Willie wasn’t attending a music, sports, or other event in Mayville, he enjoyed visiting family, or spending time with his friends golfing, playing cards, or meeting them uptown for breakfast. He was also active in the Mayville Lutheran Church community. Willie had very positive impact, and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Willie is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Alice (Youtzy) Julson, his wife of 53 years Karen Julson, sister Idell (Julson) Knudsvig, bothers-in-law Kenneth Knudsvig and Curtis Lunde and sisters-in-law Darlene Julson and Ardys Julson. He is survived by his children Jodi (Julson) and Mike Holmes, Steven and Charleen (Trygestad) Julson, brothers and sisters-in-law Ronnie and Nadine Julson, Sherilyn Julson, Ross Julson, Mike and Vicki Julson, Janis (Holmes) Lunde and sister and brother-in-law Fay and Rod Thorsell. He is also survived by his grandchildren Catherine (Julson) and Austin Baten, Colette (Julson) and Grant Baumgardner, Tessa Holmes, Alexander Holmes, Nicholas Holmes, Christina (Holmes) Strazala, Joshua Holmes, and Michaela Holmes, and his many nieces and nephews that he loved and adored. Visitation: Will be from 5–7 PM on Friday, November 17, 2017 with 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
