Mervin “Merv” Dennis Carlson, 77, of Mayville, ND died on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Sanford Medical Center in Mayville, ND. Mervin was born on December 23, 1939 on the family farm, rural Clifford, ND, the son of Ludwig and Agnes (Bjerke) Carlson. He attended Edindale Country School and graduated from Portland High School in 1957. He was in the US Army from 1958 to 1960, serving in Korea. Mervin married Elva Ulland on December 9, 1960 in Mayville, ND. He was employed by Midland Co-op, Land O’Lakes, Cenex Land O’Lakes as a agronomy Sales Specialist, retiring in 1999. Mervin was a member of the Bruflat Lutheran Church, both Mayville and Portland Fire Departments, May-Port Jaycees: receiving the JCI Senator ship award in 1975, the Goose River Masonic Lodge #19, Mayville Golf Club, Mayville VFW, Portland American Legion, ND Ag. Association. He was currently serving on the Luther Memorial Home Board of Directors and President of the Mayville City Council. Merv enjoyed visiting with family and friends, pitching in softball games, playing pinochle, watching old Western movies, his daily walks and his Tuesday night Men’s Golfing with his buddies. He is survived by his wife: Elva of Mayville; sister: Joyce Beck of Fargo; brother-in-law: Truman (Diane) Ulland of Mayville and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Arvid, Odell, Almer, Vernon and Raymond; sisters: Delores Olson and Eline Paulson; brothers-in-law: Richard Ulland, Tilman Beck, Bertel Paulson, Lawrence Schmidt and Charles Smith. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM on Monday, July 24, 2017 with a 7 PM Public Masonic Service at the Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Burial: Will be at the Bruflat Cemetery in Portland, ND.
