Donald L. Oakland, 91, of Mayville, ND passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Donald was born May 16, 1926 in Nekoma, ND to John and Myrtle Oakland. He attended school in Cavalier County at such small town schools of Weaver, Munich and Nekoma. Donald’s fondest memory was working on the farm at Adolph Haraseth farm, Fairdale, ND. In August of 1944, Donald was inducted into the US Army as an Infantry soldier at Fort Snelling, MN. He spent 5 years overseas, serving his country in Belgium, France and in Trieste Italy. He was a proud WWII Veteran. Donald married Margaret Nomeland in Langdon, ND on December 8, 1955. They made their home in Langdon and raised their three children. Donald worked road construction, worked for the city of Langdon and later at the Langdon School as custodian. Donald is survived by his wife: Margaret of Mayville, ND; his three children: James Oakland on Neche, ND, Eloise Baker of Fargo, ND and Donald G. (Becky) Oakland of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren: Stephan, Lisa, Lee, Jonathan and Heather; five great-grandchildren: Westin, Odin, Liam, Kassidy and Killian; a sister: Joyce Skjervheim of Langdon, ND and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Donald spent his last years at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND where he received a second family of caregivers who did an amazing job of caring for Donald. Visitation: Will be from 1 to 2 PM prior to the service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Memorial Service: 2:00 PM Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Burial: Will be at the Lebanon Cemetery in Langdon, ND.
