Carrol Wayne Aasen, 71, of Fargo, ND died Friday September 11, 2009 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Fargo, ND. Wayne was born June 3, 1938 at Mayville, ND, the son of Carl L, and Avis (Amundson) Aasen. He grew up on a farm in the rural Clifford area and graduated in 1956 from Clifford High School. Wayne joined the Navy in 1956 and was assigned to the USS Rochester in the Pacific fleet where they traveled to Australia, Japan, Viet Nam the Phillipines and Hawaii. Upon his discharge in 1958 he returned home to the Mayville area. On July 26, 1959 he married Karolyn Moen at Mayville Lutheran Church. Together they raised four sons and lived in Mayville. In 1961 Wayne and his uncles started the Mayville Elevator Company which they ran until selling to GTA in 1977. After selling Mayville Elevator, Wayne and Carl bought the Cummings Farmers Elevator and turned it into Northern Pride Feeds, Inc., a horse feed manufacturing plant. In the fall of 1989 Wayne and Karolyn moved to Mesa, Arizona where they lived until they returned to Fargo, ND in the fall of 1991. Upon their return to Fargo in 1991, Wayne became self employed by starting Aasen Trucking, which he continued until his diagnosis of a brain tumor in the fall of 1996. Wayne was plagued by numerous medical problems over the past 12 years spending time in the hospital and nursing homes in Mayville, Fargo and Wahpeton, with Manor Care in Fargo being the most recent. Wayne loved country music, flying ( he held a pilots license), golfing, hunting and snowmobiling. Wayne is survived by three sons, Keith (Barb) Aasen, Bismarck, ND., Todd (Adell) Aasen, Hillsboro, ND., Daniel (Amy) Aasen, Fargo, ND., Daughter in law Angie, Cummings, ND., 9 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jessica, Katie, Andrew, Krissy, Zach, Danielle, Casey and Ryan, and 2 great grandchildren, three sisters, Janice (Jerry) Carr, Mayville, ND., Barbara Irwin, Fargo, ND., Mary (George) Petitt, Moline, IL., He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeffrey and his wife Karolyn. Funeral Service: Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Visitation: Monday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Interment: Mayville City Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
