Elaine V. Thompson, 85, Hillsboro, ND, formerly of Clifford ND, passed away Sunday April 16, 2017 at Sanford Hospital Fargo ND. Elaine was born on January 22, 1932 in Portland, ND to Milton and Irene (Haugen) Madson. She grew up in Portland, ND and graduated from Portland HS. On her 19th birthday Elaine was married to Verne Thompson at Bruflat Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Shortly after their marriage, Verne enlisted in the Marine Corps and while serving in Korea, Elaine lived with her parents in Portland. When Verne returned, they lived for a while in Moorhead, MN, and then in Portland, before moving to the farm, northwest of Clifford in the spring of 1954, where they raised their five children. They lived on the farm until moving to Hillsboro in the fall of 2013. Elaine was active in the Norman Lutheran Church with Esther Circle, Ladies Aid and was a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, her flower beds and visiting with her friends. Elaine often talked about her bus trip to Oceanside, CA, to visit Verne before his deployment to Korea. She also loved to talk about her travels to Alaska and England, to visit her children. As the years went by, she also learned to appreciate the beauty of Lake Elaine. Elaine is survived by her husband Verne, her children Jackie (Steve) Sannes, Grand Forks, ND, Dale A. (Julie) Thompson, Bottineau, ND, Ricky (Mary) Thompson, Bend, OR, Ron (Brenda) Thompson, Coon Rapids, MN and Stacy (Darrin) Helt, Andover, MN; her 12 grandchildren, Jeremy (Camilla) Nickelson, Jay Nickelson, Megan (Joe) Sullivan, Hayley Sannes, Benjamin Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Hannah Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Patrick (Hayley Wender) Thompson, Kendall Thompson, Peyton Helt and Addison Helt; and her 4 great grandchildren, Lovisa Nickelson, Alekander Nickelson, Max Nickelson, and Penelope Thompson; her sister Alice Stienke, Longmont, CO, and her brothers Jerome Madson, Maple Grove and Milt (Jan) Madson, St. Paul, MN. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2016 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Thursday April, 20, 2017 at the Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford, ND. Burial: Will be at the Clifford Cemetery in Clifford, ND.
