Lloyd Wendell Erickson

Lloyd W. Erickson, 90, of Mayville, ND died on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. He was born February 20, 1927 to Halfdan “Tony” and Annie (Ness) Erickson. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at Stordahl Lutheran Church in Galesburg. He grew up near Galesburg and graduated 8th grade from Galesburg No. 4. On June 26, 1949 he married Audrey Koppang of Portland, ND, at Roseville Trinity Church. Together they had 7 children, and raised their family on a farm near Galesburg. They moved to Mayville in 1999, Sun Center Apartments in 2010 and Lloyd moved to Luther Memorial Home in 2013. Farming, family and friends were important to Lloyd. He began farming at a young age and continued to help his sons on the farm until well into his 70's. He raised his family on the farm and his grandchildren spent a lot of time there as well. Even after retiring, his "blue" pickup made many trips to Galesburg for coffee at the West Traill Cafe and to see how the crops were doing. Later his "blue" Gem car could be seen heading to downtown Mayville for his routine stops, coffee and quite often to Ma's Drive Inn for ice cream with Audrey. Many donuts and rolls were bought at Soholt Bakery for the grandchildren after school. Lloyd loved to attend his children's and grandchildren's events: be it sports, music, academics, weddings, baptisms or birthday parties. Many great "hugs" were given out at these event and not just to his immediate family. He had a warm smile and a special "wink". Lloyd loved to fix things and he could weld or mend anything that was broken, often making the necessary parts himself. He spent many hours in his shop working on machinery. Lloyd was active in his church and community. He was on the Galesburg Township and Improvement Boards and was a Stordahl Church Elder and Stordahl cemetery treasurer and plot finder for many years. He is survived by his children: Lyle (Pam) Erickson, Cheryl Bring, Steven (Teresa) Erickson all of Fargo, Donna (Jack) Vadnie of Clifford, Doreen (Gordon) Nelson of Mayville, David Erickson of Galesburg and Linda (Eric) Knudsvig of Mayville; eighteen grandchildren, four step grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren; a sister: Hazel Berg of Iowa, and sisters-in-law: Helen Strand, Solveig (Marlin) Flaten, Marilyn Koppang and Judy Koppang. Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife: Audrey; parents; brother: Harvey; sisters: Inez Rud and Adele Halvorson; brothers-in-law: Harlan Berg and Orville Halvorson and a sister-in-law Eleanor Erickson. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM on Thursday, March 30, 2017 with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Elm River Lutheran Church in Galesburg, ND. Burial: Will be at the Stordahl Cemetery in Galesburg, ND.
