Lillian “Delores” (Forseth) Hjelmstad, 90, passed away on Friday, March 24th at Luther Memorial Independent Living facility, Mayville, ND. Delores was born March 6, 1927, rural Reynolds, ND, daughter of Clara and Christ Forseth. She was a life-long member of Stjordalen Lutheran Church until its closure. She attended country school in Michigan Township, graduated from Reynolds High School in 1944 and received a teaching certificate from Mayville State University in 1945. Delores had various jobs outside the home which included driving school bus and potato truck but then took fulltime employment at the Grand Forks Air Force Base where she retired after 25 years of employment in 1989. She held many offices in her church and the DAV Auxiliary including the Commander of the Auxiliary. She married Harry Hjelmstad on August 13, 1947 and they were married for 66 years. They farmed in the Reynolds area and lived on the farm until 2001 when they moved to Mayville, ND. She lived the last three years at Luther Memorial Independent Living facility where she made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed the facility and its many activities. She is survived by three children: Nancy (Don) Krogstad, Grand Forks, ND, Lyle (Carol) Hjelmstad, Reynolds, ND and Cathy (Greg) Birkholz, Howard Lake, MN; six grandchildren: Jason (Katie) Krogstad, Jennifer (Brad) Heisler, Shelly (Dave) Vollmer, JoDee (Lance) Nielsen, Amy (Troy) Sand, Adam Birkholz and eight great grandchildren: Reed, Sophie and Luke Krogstad, Audrey Heisler, Tucker and Ashlyn Nielsen, Ethan and Abby Sand; two sisters: Donna Grove, Grand Forks, ND and Arleen Fellows, Morris, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; parents Clara and Christ; brothers Kenneth and Orville; sister Orpha Weber and great granddaughter Whitney Sand. Visitation: Will be from 12 till 2 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2016 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Stjordalen ~ Hjelmstad Cemetery in Reynolds, ND.
