She was educated in the Mayville public school system. She married Vincent Nelson of rural Hope, ND in 1946. She was blessed with having three children: Larry, Roger, and Tom. She spent the first 7 years of her married life on the Nielson Farm in Melrose Township, Steele County. In the spring 1954 the family moved to Portland, ND where they resided until 1971 when they moved to Mayville. In 1997 she moved back to Portland, and in 2007 she entered Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Jane endured a long life with numerous memories going back to the late 30’s and early 40’s - she was even reminiscent in her later years. In her early 20’s, Jane had a fall and injured her back. Back surgeries in those days were virtually unheard of. Arthritis set in and she lived with an arthritic back and its complications for nearly 60 years, rarely ever complaining. Jane liked young children and spent several years babysitting the youngsters of others in the community. She liked to play whist, admired birds, and was fond of animals as she often watched the cable TV station: Devoted to Animals. She also enjoyed visiting her close friends in Portland. Jane is survived by her oldest son Larry, and youngest son Tom (Janet), all of Mayville; daughter-in-law, Laurie Nielson of Harwood, ND; one sister, Marge Piephorn of CA; 4 grandchildren, Cher Nelson of Hunter, ND, Isaiah Nielson and Carin Nielson, both of Harwood, ND, and Luke Nielson of Portland, ND; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Orlin Wallace and Jerome, her husband Vincent and her son, Roger.
