Hilma Sommerfeldt

March 24, 1917 — August 12, 2009

Hilma Sommerfeldt, age 92, of Mayville, North Dakota, died August 12, 2009, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Hilma was born on March 24, 1917 the 10th Child of Andreas H. Fjeld and Anna Marie Dahlen immigrants of Norway to Mayville. Hilma attended rural school thru the eighth grade. In 1940, she married Lueverne Sommerfeldt and they were life long members of Mayville Lutheran Church. They bought an 80 acre farm in 1957 two miles east of Mayville and one mile south and lived there until 1982 when they sold the farm and moved into a house they had built in town. Hilma was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. Many people have enjoyed receiving her beautiful items. Hilma also enjoyed music. She could play piano and accordion by ear and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. Hilma was preceded in death by her husband, Lueverne Sommerfeldt 6 brothers, Norval Fjeld, Melvin Fjeld, Clarence Fjeld, Alvin Fjeld, Mallo Fjeld, Henry Fjeld and 3 sisters, Hilda Fjeld, Mabel Fjeld and Hanna Fjeld. Thank you to those “special” individuals at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville who took time each day to care for Hilma. There is no greater calling than that of service. Thank you also to Helen Strand for being such a good caring friend in Hilma’s time of need. John 14:1-4 Don’t be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know where I am going and how to get there. There will be no services at Hilma’s request.
