Wilfrid John Charles Gapp, 85, of Mayville, ND died on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Wilfrid Gapp was born on November 12, 1931, to Henry and Josephine Gapp in Walhalla, ND. He attended grade school at Crown Center country school and graduated from Oakwood Academy, Oakwood, ND in 1949. He later attended North Dakota State University for winter quarters. Will spent his life farming in the Walhalla area until his retirement in 1996. He spent nine months in the Army, receiving a hardship discharge in 1953 when his brother passed away. Will married Karen Gapp, the love of his life, on April 16, 1966. They lived in Walhalla until November of 2004 when they moved to Mayville, ND, to be closer to Family. Will was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where he served on several boards, including the St. Boniface School Board and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion. Will enjoyed playing golf, bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards and board games; but mainly anything that entailed hanging out with family. Despite farming all day, he still enjoyed working in his garden to relax and his yard was always meticulous. Wilfrid is survived by his wife Karen; sons: Kevin (Lisa), Darin (Shari) and Allan; daughters: Kimberly (Patrick) Claus and Lauri (Mark) Shropshire. There are nine grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Allan, Henry and Phillip. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM on Sunday, February 5, 2016 with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Monday, February 6, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Burial: Will be at the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
