Alan Reid Strand passed away in Mayville, ND on January 7, 2017 at the age of 64. Alan was born in Cooperstown, ND on December 21st, 1952 to Sanford and Florence (Torgerson) Strand and grew up in Finley, ND. He attended Finley High School, graduating in 1970 and attended North Dakota State University and North Dakota State College of Science, graduating in 1974 with a BA in Business Administration. He worked at the Finley Pool and the Highway Department before going into the family ready mix business. He became owner-operator of Strand Ready Mix in 1980 with his brothers Douglas and Richard. Alan was an avid motorcycle and classic car enthusiast. He also loved NDSU athletics, specifically football, going to car shows, rock-n-roll music, Minnesota Vikings football and working the family business. Alan was also an amateur drummer in the bands, The Clues and The Morticians. Survivors include his children: Steven (Kari) Strand of Eden Prairie, MN, Matthew (Tonya) Strand of Hatton, ND; his sister: Sheila Strand of Coeur d'Alene, ID; brothers: Douglas Strand of Fargo, ND and Richard (Marilyn) Strand of Finley, ND; long time significant other, Sonia Burley; 3 grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Alan was preceded in death by his father: Sanford; mother: Florence; brother: Gerald and sister-in-law: Kathy. Visitation: Will be from 5–7 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2017 with a 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Finley Lutheran Church in Finley, ND. Burial: Will be in the Finley Cemetery, Finley, ND.
