Ieleen Hazel Naas

November 28, 1923 — November 27, 2016

Ieleen Hazel Naas, 92, of Mayville, ND died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Ieleen was born on November 28, 1923 in McVille, ND to Tom and Agnes (Drengson) Naas and graduated from Kloten High School. After graduation she was employed by Kloten Public Schools. Ieleen attended Mayville State Teachers College and taught school in Luverne and Bisbee, North Dakota. After her years of teaching, Ieleen worked at the ASC office in Hillsboro and the Goose River Bank in Mayville. Ieleen was a member of Gran Lutheran Church and was active in the Gran women’s groups. Ieleen enjoyed several types of needle work including embroidery, knitting, counted cross stitch and crocheting. She made needle work gifts for many friends and family members. Ieleen didn’t enjoy cooking, but she was famous among her relatives for her lasagna and deviled eggs. Ieleen was very particular about keeping a clean house. She was always cleaning! She also didn’t tolerate clutter in her house. In fact, if you showed up for a visit in the morning, and asked if you could read the morning paper, she would probably answer that she had already taken it out to the garbage. Punctuality was a quality that was important to Ieleen. If you didn’t show up for an event an hour ahead of time, you were late. So invariably, she was the first to arrive and probably the last to leave. And then there were her photography skills. Ieleen took some great photos, however; her subjects were usually tired of smiling or posing by the time she finally pulled the trigger. It was definitely a standing joke with the family. She would take no picture before its time. Ieleen is survived by a sister: Avis (Willard) Van Wechel of Mayville; brother: Tracy (Rosalie) Naas of McVille; sister-in-law: Harriet Naas of Grand Forks; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Lester and Irving and sister: Irene. Ieleen was a special lady and will be missed. Blessed be the memory of Ieleen Hazel Naas. Visitation: Will be from 5–7 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2016 with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and resumed one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Gran Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at 2 PM Friday in Our Saviors Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kloten, ND.
