Delores Kathleen Grandalen

Delores Kathleen Grandalen, 85, of Portland, ND passed away on July 19, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville. Her beloved husband, Oliver, preceded her in death just 25 days prior. She was born on August 22, 1930 to Anna (Holkesvig) and Manne Olson in Mayville. She grew up on a farm near Mayville and graduated from Mayville High School. Delores and Oliver were married on October 8, 1950. They were very proud of their 65 years of marriage. They raised six children on the family farmstead near Portland. An active member of Aurdal Lutheran Church, Delores served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also served on several Ladies’ Aid committees; organizing, planning, and providing for many important events within the Church. She was known to be a very hard worker, helping in the field and milking the dairy cattle, and always keeping up with housework. As a homemaker she loved and always provided for her family. Delores was an excellent cook and baker. She took pride in and enjoyed making traditional Norwegian recipes. She also loved gardening, raising beautiful flowers and lots of fruits and vegetables. Delores always made time for her grandchildren and loved playing games, reading and having tea parties with them. They were her pride and joy. She is survived by her children: Diane (Bernie) Nath of Utah, Wayne of Grand Forks, Shirley (Paul) Bakken of Grand Forks, Joanne Hanson of Iowa, Beverly (Steven) Cornelius of Portland, Lyle of Portland; nine grandchildren: Aaron, Sean, Tina (Jake), Carrie (Bryan), Valerie, Bradley, Jon (Nikki), Lexie and Holly; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters: Alvia (James) Flaten and Elaine (John) Hagen; one brother: Dennis (Connie) Olson, and many nieces and nephews. Delores was dearly loved and will be missed by all. Blessed be the memory of Delores Grandalen. Visitation: Will be from 6–7 PM on Thursday, July 21, 2016 with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at the Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND.
