Howard Thoreson, 89, of Mayville, ND, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at his residence. Howard was born to Peter and Hannah Thoreson on September 19, 1919 in Lindaas Township. He was baptized and confirmed at North Prairie Lutheran Church. He attended Lindaas School through 8th grade and graduated from Mayville High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1942. When he returned from military service he worked at the Fairmont Creamery in Moorhead, MN. Howard married Betty Lou Weum in Moorhead on March 1, 1947. They made their home in Mayville. Howard and Betty managed the Luxury Ice Cream Store. Howard then became a self employed painter. Later he worked for American Republic Insurance, and then for UND until his retirement in 1981. In his retirement he continued to do lawn care to keep busy. Howard and Betty enjoyed many summers of camping and fishing at Gull Lake. Howard is survived by his wife, Betty Lou of Mayville; 2 daughters, Paulette (Teddy) Patterson of Lockwood, MO and Wanda Parker of Ontario, CA; 5 sons, Wayne (Marijo) of Forest Lake, MN, Terry (Harriet) of Buxton, ND, Dean (Denise) of Spokane, WA, Lynne of Owatona, MN, and Ronald (Kathy) of Moorhead, MN; 3 sisters, Alpha (Kenneth) Flaten of Hatton, ND, Eleanor Erickson of Galesburg, ND and DeLoris Erickson of Portland, ND; 1 brother, Peter (Betty Lou) Thoreson Jr. of Mayville; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mayo, and granddaughter, Tracy Patterson. Funeral Service: 2:30 PM, Monday, May 18, 2009 at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Visitation: 1-3 Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Interment: Mayville City Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
