Omar S. Moen

Omar S. Moen, 84, of Mayville, ND, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND. Omar was born on April 4, 1925 to John and Mary (Sandmæl) Moen in Mayville, ND. He grew up in rural Mayville and attended Mayville Township #2 country school. In 1945 he joined the US army. He serviced radar equipment during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Marcella Bjerke on October 26, 1947 at Perry Lutheran Church rural Portland, ND. Omar farmed for a few years before moving into Mayville. Omar enjoyed anything that involved work. He had various jobs over the years including elevator work, and truck driving, which he retired from in 1987. He was an accomplished carpenter and could fix anything and everything. He built the house he and Marcella have shared for the past 49 years. Omar also enjoyed his vegetable garden, and sharing his produce with family and friends. Omar is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marcella of Mayville; 5 children, Gary Moen (Shelia Anderson) of Clifford, ND, Annette (Eddy) Sherva of Northwood, ND, Vickie (Tom) Soholt of Mayville, Carla (Bruce) Christianson of Portland, ND, and Kurt Moen of Clifford; brother, Robert (Shirley) Moen of Kent, WA; sister-in-law Doris Moen of Dupont, WA; 13 grandchildren, Jason Moen, April (Daniel) Cranston, Alicia (Tom) Rolfson, Chad (Becky) Sherva, Cory (Sonya) Sherva, Holly (Justin) Cooper, Robin (Paul) Severud, Nicole (Mike) Zorba, Jered (Jessica) Arneson, Scott Schultz, Kasey Schultz, Michael Christianson, and Nicholas Christianson; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 siblings, Alton Moen, Myrtle Moen, Edith Knudson, and Einar Moen. Visitation: Sunday, April 19, 2009, from 3-5 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and one hour before the funeral at the church. Funeral: 2:30 PM, Monday, April 20, 2009, at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
