Jean W. Oxton, 97, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Finley, ND, died Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Jean Wilma Oxton was born August 6, 1918 to William and Minnie (Christianson) Horner in Finley, ND. She attended Finley Public School. After her schooling, Jean worked as a clerk at the Steele County Auditor’s Office and later at the Johnson Department Store. Jean married Francis Burner in 1940 and they had a son, Roger Jerome Burner. Francis passed away in 1952. On July 2, 1954, she married Samuel Robert Oxton. They made their home in Finley where they raised their daughter, Dawn. They enjoyed many summers on Twin Lake in Minnesota and many winters in Mesa, AZ. The couple moved to Mayville in 2006, after living in Finley for 88 years. Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday and Bible Schools. She was also a member of the Methodist Women of which she held an office, Finley Homemakers Club #1, Garden Club and the Rural Carrier Auxiliary. Jean enjoyed many things through the years, such as traveling, dancing, playing cards with friends, cooking and baking for her family and her beautiful flower gardens. But most of all, Jean enjoyed spending her life with her husband: Sam, and also the time she spent with her grandsons, attending their activities. She was proud of all their many accomplishments. She is survived by her loving husband: Sam of 61 years; daughter: Dawn (Alan) Senger of Linton, ND; grandson: Rob (Angela) Senger along with her great grandsons: Braden and Kyler all of Mina, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Ralph Horner; son: Roger Burner and a grandson: Jay Charles Senger. Visitation: Will be Thursday, October 15, 2015 one hour prior to the service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Finley Cemetery in Finley, ND.
