Maynard A. Johnson, 92, formerly of Hope, N.D., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Maynard was born to Alfred and Anna Johnson on May 27, 1922, on the family farm in Hugo Township, Steele County, near Hope, ND. He was the youngest of five children. He attended a country school near his home until he was old enough to help out on his parents’ farm. He lived in the Hope area his entire life. Maynard was a farmer since he was a young man, either working on his parents’ farm, then purchasing it, and later leasing it, until moving to Luther Memorial Home in 2011. In addition to farming, he owned and managed a four-plex in Hope, ND for several years. He and his family were active in Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hope, ND, and formerly Blabon Lutheran Church in Blabon, ND, where Maynard’s parents lived before he was born. His parents were among the founders of the church in Blabon in 1912. Services at the church were originally held in Norwegian. Maynard was baptized and confirmed at Blabon Lutheran Church. Maynard was active in the Farmers Union and was one of the founders of Hope Farmers Union Oil Company. Although he never married or had children, he always looked out for his parents and siblings throughout his life through his caring actions. He was a good-natured friend to many. He enjoyed watching baseball and listening to Paul Harvey and the news. He was preceded in death by his parents: Alfred and Anna Johnson; brothers: Leonard Johnson and Kenneth Johnson; sisters: Myrtle Johnson Kubischta and Gladys Johnson Hedlund. Maynard is survived by his nephew, Don Kubischta of Hope, N.D. and niece Sharon Arnst of Gresham, OR. Visitation: Will be will be one hour prior to the service in the church.
