Eleanor Ann Ostlund passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Luther Memorial Nursing Home in Mayville, North Dakota. She was 91 years old. Eleanor was born on December 3, 1923 In Hillsboro, N.D. to John and Anna (Bakkum) Kaldor. She was baptized and confirmed at Aal Lutheran Church in rural Hillsboro. Eleanor attended Norway #3 grade school, graduated from Mayville High School and attended Mayville State College. Eleanor married Wayne Ostlund on June 29, 1946 at the farm belonging to her sister and brother-in law, Leon and Bernice Moen. Wayne preceded her in death in July, 1976. Eleanor and Wayne moved frequently during their marriage, living in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska. After Wayne’s retirement in 1972, they purchased a motel in Kimball, Nebraska and enjoyed a few years there until Wayne’s death. No matter where they lived, Eleanor always considered North Dakota and particularly “the farm” to be her home. She was happiest when she was in North Dakota. Eleanor had many talents especially painting, leather tooling, sewing, hardanger and other needle work. She loved to sing and dance and enjoyed playing cards. She is survived by 3 daughters, Carol Harker of Portland, OR, Bette (James) Themanson of Kewanee, IL and Lorna (Mike) Elton of Detroit Lakes, MN and her grandchildren Geoff (Amy) Harker, Eric (Kim) Themanson of Trevor WI, Michael (Lisa) Themanson of Volo, IL, Jason (Jennifer) Themanson of Mahomet, IL, Seth (Jennifer) Ostlund of Pekin, IL, Ryan (Erin) Dunahoo of Redding, CA, Lindsey Johnson of International Fall, MN, Waylon Johnson of International Falls, MN and Lacy (Craig) Palmer of International Falls, MN. She also survived by her great-grandchildren Sam and David Harker, Charles and Sam Themanson, Abbi and Caitlyn Themanson, Jacob Anderson and Jaxon Themanson, Kyler Ostlund, Joey, Cody, Kaleb and Ben Dunahoo, Madison Johnson and Sawyer Palmer and many special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John and Lynn and sisters Bernice and June, her daughter Lois Vogel and a granddaughter Jenny Ostlund. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fargo, ND.
