Sophie Enger, 87, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, December 15, 2008, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. She was born on August 28, 1921, in Steele County, the daughter of Edward and Dora (Rygg) Lerdahl. Sophie was baptized on September 25, 1921 and confirmed in the Bruflat Lutheran Church, in Portland on June 21, 1936. She attended rural schools in Steele County, graduated from Portland High School and later attended Mayville State Teachers College. On June 10, 1944, she married Percy Enger in the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland. The couple resided and farmed near Mayville. Sophie was a member of the Aurdal Lutheran Church of Portland, and was active in the Ladies Aid. She loved her flowers, her gardens and was a former 4H leader. She is survived by one son, Neil Enger of Mayville; two daughters, Sandra (David) Nichols of Climax, MN and Pamela (James) Mostad of Minot, ND; four grandchildren, Susan Nichols, Marcia Nichols, Gregory (Melissa) Mostad and Daniel (Shannon) Mostad; two sisters, Inez Severson of Vacaville, CA and Lorraine Fugleberg of South Souix City, NE. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death was her husband, Percy in 1994 and a sister, Ruth Braaten. Visitation: Will be from 5 – 7 pm on Friday at the Baker Funeral Home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
