Donald A. Newman, 85 of Mayville, ND, died Monday March 9, 2015 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Don was born April 17, 1929 in Mayville to Albert and Bertha (Gidskemo) Newman. He attended school in Mayville, and graduated from Mayville State University with a degree in teaching. During college Don owned and operated a gravel truck. On March 22, 1951 Don married the love of his life Ardyce Collette Enger at Little Forks Lutheran Church, Hatton, ND. The couple made their first home in Portland Junction, and later in Buxton, ND where Don taught history and coached girl’s basketball. After two years, he quit teaching and coaching because in his words "those girls cry when they win, and they cry when they lose." Don also played baseball for the Mayville Red Caps, where he pitched a game against a young Roger Maris, who promptly hit a 500 ft home run off his best pitch. Don and Ardyce returned to Mayville to enter into business with Don's Dad Albert. This business, A.H. Newman Inc., is now a four generational business. Don was also on the board of directors of the First State Bank of Buxton, ND. Growing up, Don was very proud and worked hard to earn his Eagle Scout. He was very active in his church, Ebenezer Lutheran. He loved to sing, fish, golf, and spend time with his family.
