Nello Enger

Nello O. Enger, 91, of Mayville ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville under the care of Hospice. His family was at his side. Nello was born in Portland ND to Carl O. and Alma (Nelson) Enger on November 2, 1923. He attended schools in Viking and Garfield Townships. He worked at various jobs near Portland Junction before joining the army in 1944. He served in the Philippines and Japan. He returned to the states in 1946. On February 26, 1949 he married Elayne Crawford of Buxton ND. He worked at the Elmer Brunsdale Dairy farm in Mayville. They moved to Erie ND where he worked for Cass County Road Dept as a maintainer operator. He worked for them for 31 years before retiring. Upon retirement they moved back to Mayville where he drove cars for Mayville Motors. Nello was active in the American Legion and the VFW. He was proud to be a member of the May-Port-CG Color Guard. They received many local honors for their services. He enjoyed traveling throughout the states in their motor home with friends and relatives and going to casinos. Pinochle games kept them busy also. He entered Luther Memorial Home in 2010 and proudly took care of the resident dog “Scooby” and of course his wife Elayne. He so much enjoyed the staff at the nursing home. Nello is survived by his children: Kathy Woodbury, Greg (Lori) Enger, 4 grand children: Chad (Darla) Woodbury, Ryan Woodbury, Erika Woodbury, Scot (Jessica) Enger, 9 great- grandchildren, his sister: Ardyce (Don) Newman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Elayne, sister: Delores Pladson, brother: Ordell Enger. Visitation: Will be on Saturday, January 31, 2015 one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Military Honors by: May~Port Honor Guard and ND Military Funeral Honors Burial: Will be at Little Forks Cemetery, Hatton, ND at a later date.
