Ruth Marie Johnson, age 87, passed away peacefully Sunday January 4, 2015 surrounded by family at Ava Maria Nursing Home, Jamestown, North Dakota. Ruth was born November 16, 1927 to parents Werner and Rose (Gebhardt) Nolte at the family farm in North Germany Township, Wadena County Minnesota. Ruth Attended District 49 School through the 8th grade. She attended Sebeka High School, graduating in 1945, spending her junior year at Moorhead High School while working for relatives. In July 1951 she married Charles Dunning from that union having two children, Nancy and David. In July 1957 Ruth married Merlyn Johnson and through that union three additional children were born, Glenn, Luther and Barbara. She moved to Cummings, North Dakota in 1957 and to the family farm in 1961. Ruth and Merlyn moved to Mayville in 1986 and to the Luther Memorial Home in 2011. Following Merlyn’s death in 2012, she moved to the Ava Maria Nursing Home in Jamestown, North Dakota. Ruth was an exceptionally dedicated farm wife that loved her family, faith and church activities. Ruth was an excellent cook, gardener and seamstress. As the oldest child of a rural family raised in the great depression Ruth developed an exceptional work ethic and appreciation for life. She is survived by brothers William (Nyla) Nolte Fargo, North Dakota, Paul (Joanne) Nolte Sebeka, Minnesota, Ben (Carolyn) Nolte Kerrville, Texas, Norman (Marilyn) Nolte Lady Lake, Florida and sister Laura (Jim) Bounds, Wadena Minnesota. Children Nancy (Doug) Bounds Jamestown, North Dakota, David (Annette) Dunning Park River, North Dakota, Glenn (Susan) Johnson Mayville, North Dakota, Luther Johnson(Sherry), Apple Valley, Minnesota and Barbara (Mark) Soderlund, Lakeville Minnesota, fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her two husbands and parents. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at 1:30 PM in the Carlson Cemetery, Cummings, ND.
