Julie Ann Karolus, 52, of Portland, ND, died suddenly on Monday, November 17, 2014 at her home. Julie was born October 12, 1962 in Northfield, MN to Jose and Donald Lidberg. She grew up in Northfield and attended public school there. She worked at Carleton College where she met the love of her life, Bryan Karolus. They were married on Aug. 27 1988 in Northfield. They were transferred to Mayville State College and purchased their home in Portland, ND with their two sons, Micheal and Mathew. Julie and Bryan bought the Café in Portland and ran it for 5 years. After the sale of the restaurant, Julie went to work at Paula's in Mayville, and most recently at Mayville State College. Julie loved to bake and make cookies, banana bread and other goodies for anyone that asked her to and even those that didn't know they wanted some. She was a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland. She was a supporter of the American Cancer Society; having lost her mother, father, brother and sister-in-law to different forms of cancer. She battled and beat esophageal cancer herself. Julie is survived by her husband: Bryan; two sons: Michael of MN, and Mathew (Meagan) of Mayville; three older brothers: David and Richard Harmer and Mick Lindberg and step mom: Jessie Lindberg all of MN. She is also survived by eight nieces; six nephews; three sisters-in law; two brothers-in-law and her mother and father-in-law of IL. She is preceded in death by her parents: Jose and Donald Lindberg; brother: Douglas Harmer and a sister-in-law: Barbra Harmer. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Service: 1:30 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Northfield, MN.
