Peder Simengaard, 89, of Hillsboro, ND, died on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Hillsboro Care Center in Hillsboro. He was born on August 5, 1925 in Hillsboro, grew up on the family farm in rural Traill County and attended the Norway Township School. Peder was confirmed in the Aal Lutheran Church and became a member there. Peder entered the US Army in 1943 and served in the European Theatre as an Infantryman. After his discharge in 1946, he returned home to help his father farm. Peder took over the family farm when his father retired in 1955 and continued till his retirement in 1981. Peder supported the West Traill and Hillsboro Ambulance Services, Mayville and Hillsboro Fire Departments, the Mayville and Hillsboro Food Pantry and the Portland Lutheran Parish. He is survived by his sister-in-law: Joan Simengaard of of Portland, ND; nephews: Gary (JoAnn) McClenahen of Hillsboro, ND, Earl (Annette) McClenahen of Audubon, MN, Harold (Alice) Simengaard of Portland, ND; nieces: Linda McClenahen of Hawthorne, CA, Susan (James) Strand of Pelican Rapids, MN; 13 great nieces and nephews and 27 great-great nieces and nephews. Peder is preceded in death by his parents: Ole and Olga (Kaldor) Simengaard; brothers: Olaf and Erland Simengaard; sisters: Marie Renden and Alice McClenahen. Peder was married to Helen Paulson. She passed away in 2012. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
