Velma Lorena Harrington Pautz, 102, died peacefully on November 12, 2014, under the care of the staff at Luther Memorial Home. Velma was born October 9, 1912, in Pillsbury, N.D. where she attended elementary school. In the 8th grade, Velma and her family moved to Erie, N.D., where she graduated high school. Her parents owned the Harrington Brothers Stockyard. She met Clarence Pautz while grocery shopping and they were married on November, 1933 in Fargo, N.D. and lived in Mayville, N.D. Velma and Clarence both worked at the stockyard and later they built the Mayville Motel where she would clean the rooms. She also held many positions in her life, including Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer and, most important to her: wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Velma loved to pass time by crocheting, gardening, embroidering, working on puzzles and doing church work. Her final years were spent in the Luther Memorial Home where she was much loved by the staff and enjoyed visiting with her many friends and family members. She will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include daughter, Marlys (Delbert), of Mayville; daughter, Dalyce (Verne), of Fargo; daughter Debra, of Grand Forks; grandchildren: Jon, Douglas, Paul, Jennifer, Wendy, Wanda, Tammy, Chad, Kevin, Jay; great-grandchildren: Colton, Kristen, Melodee, Holly, Sarah, Katherine, Gena, Isaak, Caitlin, Ryan, Lily, Jaime, Alexandra, Cody, Briani, Tristan, Tukker, Bella, Emma; great-great-grandchildren: Bailey, Connor, Evelyn and Mariah. Velma is preceded in death by her parents, Harold Garfield and Edna Harrington, husband: Clarence; brothers: Lyle, Harold, Merton; sister: Lois and son-in-law Dan. A celebration of Velma’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Mayville Congregational U.C.C., Mayville, N.D. Visitation with the family will be available at 12:00 p.m. till the service. Burial will follow the services at the Mayville Cemetery.
