Anna A. Grindeland

Anna Grindeland, 89, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Anna was born to Adam and Ottila (Stegman) Menke on October 23, 1925 in Neche, ND. She grew up on the family farm, graduated from Neche High School, earned a teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College and taught in a one-room country school. On October 23, 1945 she married her lifelong partner, Norman Grindeland. They farmed together southeast of Mayville and celebrated 69 wedding anniversaries. Anna enjoyed church activities, gardening, playing golf, making crafts, playing whist and pinochle, working as a nursing assistant at Luther Memorial Home and volunteering in the community. She loved her family and friends. She liked to see them laugh and smile. She enjoyed the residents and staff at Luther Memorial Home where she would walk down the hallways, greet people and touch their hands. She did this one last time a few hours before she died. Anna is survived by her husband, Norman; son, Martin (Sveta) Grindeland, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, James (Thea) Grindeland, Athens, GA; John (Katie) Grindeland, St. Anthony, MN; Sergei Shkalikov, Moorhead, MN; great grandchildren, Estelle, Isabelle and Nora; sister, Lenora Olson, Langdon, ND; and brother, Arnold Stegman, Grand Forks, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Amy Tennison and brother, Albert Menke. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Gran Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Gran Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
