Juneth Nelson, 94, Mesa, AZ and Ada, MN, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. Juneth was born on May 1, 1914, in Portland, ND, the daughter of Peter and Marie (Berg) Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Juneth married Walter Nelson at the Aurdal Parsonage in Portland on April 8, 1934. In 1944, they moved to a farmstead in Newburgh Township, Steele County, that is located five miles west of Hatton, ND. A son, Lyle, and daughter, Vicky, were born to them while they farmed in this area. They continued to live on the farm until they moved to Portland, ND, in the fall of 1992. Walter and Juneth spent winters in Mesa, AZ, with their son and daughter-in-law beginning in 1998 until the time of their deaths. Juneth enjoyed being busy, whether it was helping with the farm work, cooking and baking, or attending the activities her children were involved with as they grew up. She was an avid sewer and made many different projects up to the last several years. Juneth enjoyed traveling with family members throughout the United States, as well as to Europe. Her trips to Norway, her ancestral country, enabled her to visit with her relatives that reside there. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, her granddaughter who spent a lot of time at the farm as a child, and visiting with her three great-grandchildren. Juneth is survived by a son, Lyle (Kay) of Ada, MN and Mesa, AZ; a daughter, Vicky Stormoe of Fargo, ND; a granddaughter, Kristen (James) Bullis of Fargo, ND; three great-grandchildren, Ian, Katherine, and Claire Bullis of Fargo, ND; and two brothers, Alf Haugen and Palmer Haugen of Mayville, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter in 2004; her sisters, Elvina Haagenson and Mildred Finstad; her brother, Oliver Haugen; and her son-in-law, Dennis Stormoe. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Little Forks Lutheran Church, Hatton, ND. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
