Howard Earl Hefta, 87, of Portland, ND died Tuesday July 1, 2014 at the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, ND. Howard was born on July 19, 1926 to Albert and Alma (Stenvik) Hefta. After attending school, he was drafted into the Armed services in the fall of 1950. He was stationed in Germany. He returned home in 1952 and entered Hanson Auto Trade School in Fargo, ND. He returned to the family farm where he continued to farm until retiring in 1997. He entered Hatton Prairie Village in the fall of 2012. Howard is survived by brothers, Allen (Ardella) Hefta, Grand Forks, ND, Albert Hefta Jr. Portland, ND, Charles (Marlene) Hefta, Portland, ND; sisters, Joyce (Kenneth) Johnson, New London, MN and Sylvia Osland, Fergus Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Corinne Hefta, Fargo, ND; eighteen nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Albert and Alma (Stenvik) Hefta; brothers, Gordon Hefta , Kenneth Hefta and Alan Hefta,( as a infant); sisters, Edith Hefta Laney, Norma Hefta Lee and Alice Hefta Cooper. Visitation: Will be 4 – 7 PM on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Funeral Service: 1:30 PM Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton, ND. Burial: Will be at 4 PM on Monday in the Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, ND.
