Ordell "Bud" Johnson

Ordell “Bud” Johnson, 88, of Mayville, ND died Sunday June 8, 2014 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Ordell "Bud" Johnson was born July 4, 1925 on the family farm in rural Cummings, North Dakota, to Nels and Alma (Larson) Johnson. He grew up on the farm and attended rural school in Wold Township. Bud owned and operated Ordell Johnson & Sons Farm, Johnson Trucking LTD., Gateway Transportation, and started Magnum Trucking. Bud also served on the boards for the Buxton Coop and the Traill County Farm Bureau. He loved the Lord and served Him in many ways throughout his life. He served on several different church boards, and on the Cooperstown Bible Camp board. He was a long time member of Gideon’s International, and really enjoyed handing New Testaments out to hundreds of school children and visiting with people. On June 26, 1948, Bud was united in marriage to Verna Jean Ross in Hillsboro, ND. They made their home on the family farm in rural Cummings. Verna passed away on Oct 6, 1967. On June 22, 1968 Bud married Marian Elizabeth Olson and they lived on the family farm until 1994, when they moved into Mayville. In 2012, they moved into the Sun Center Assisted Living in Mayville and in January of 2013 Bud moved into the Luther Memorial Home. Bud loved to farm; he started farming at the age of 16 and actively farmed until he was 82, when he could no longer get into the tractor. He loved driving the John Deere 4 wheel drive tractors—a big change from the horses and then steel wheeled tractors he started with. He enjoyed sharing his passion with his three sons, and loved to tell his 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren stories of his life experiences. Bud's love and devotion to his family was undeniable. Bud is survived by his wife Marian of Mayville, Sons: Dale (Diane) of Cummings, Daryl (Karen)of Mayville, Neal (Gaylene)of Cummings; grandchildren: Staci (Ryan) Anderson of Bismarck, Ross (Allison) Johnson of Mayville, Mindy (Travis) Dale of Youngstown OH, Mandy (Lee) Nelson of Willmar MN, Jeremy Johnson of Mayville, Heather (Kevin) Swanson of Dilworth MN, Ryan Johnson of Cummings; Great Grandchildren: Haylee & Kain Dale, Isaac & Olivia Anderson, Faith, Sophia, & Micah Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Verna, Sister Rezelda, Great Grandchildren: VernaAnn, & Lily Johnson. Visitation: Will be 4 – 7 PM with a 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Carlson Cemetery, rural Cummings, ND.
