JoAnn C. Harrington, 89, of Mayville, ND, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at Union Hospital in Mayville. JoAnn was born to B.W. (Jeff) and Nettie (Nelson) Condit on April 27, 1919 in Wahpeton, ND. At the age of 10, JoAnn moved with the family to Mayville, where her father was the editor of the Traill County Tribune. JoAnn attended elementary, high school, and college in Mayville, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree. JoAnn taught high school in Minnesota, married Merton Harrington, had two children, and returned to Mayville in 1951. JoAnn was active in the Mayville Congregational church, PEO, served on the school board, was Assistant Registrar at Mayville State College from 1954-1959 and taught in the business education department from 1959-1967. JoAnn earned her Masters degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Following the death of her husband, JoAnn moved to Tempe, Arizona to pursue her doctorate degree. She later became a full professor at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. Following her retirement, she lived in Superior, WI and returned to Mayville in the early 1990’s. She is survived by her son, Richard (Virginia) Harrington of Roy, UT; daughter, Barbara (George) Nolan of Temecula, CA; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ruth Skarison of Mayville, Kate (Gerry) Spies of St. Petersburg, FL, and Beverly (Ed) Clausen of Clark, SD; and 1 brother, John (Marylee) Condit of Mount Morris IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merton V. Harrington, her sister, Helen Moritz, and her grandson David Harrington.
