Hazel Nerdahl, formerly of Sharon, ND, died at Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND on May 16, 2014. Hazel Judith Klabo was born on October 6, 1913 in Sharon, to Theodore and Thilda (Agotness) Klabo. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Sharon. Hazel graduated from Sharon High School in 1931 and earned her teaching certificate from Mayville Teacher’s College in 1934. She taught at Westfield Township Country School#1 from 1935 to 1937. On June 19, 1937 she married Norval (N.O.) Nerdahl. While he worked for the Federal Land Bank they lived in Minot, Williston, Jamestown, Mandan and Devil’s Lake, ND. In 1943 they returned to Sharon, where they farmed until their retirement in 1974. Together they enjoyed many winters in Mesa, AZ. After Norval’s death in 1994, Hazel continued to spend winters in Arizona and summers on the farm. In 2009 she moved off the farm and into an assisted living apartment in Hatton, ND. Hazel loved flowers, gardening and could make almost anything grow. She was a wonderful hostess. No one could visit without having something to eat or drink. In her retirement she became an accomplished oil and china painter. Most people that met her commented on her beautiful smile and pleasant personality. She enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends last October. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers: Clarence (Selma), Alfred (Evelyn), Nelvin (Eileen) and Chester (Eldora) and one sister: Cora Egedisen Savage (Miles). She is survived by three sons: Lee (Norma) of Sharon, ND, Dean (Sandra) of Bloomington, MN and Boyd (Cheryl) of Sharon, ND and one daughter: Joan (Roger) Netland of Sharon, ND. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Mark Nerdahl, Diane (Mark) Dick, Tracy (Dan) Shand, Holly (Faysal) Abraham, Valerie (Scott) Verwest, Karen (Mark) Ewen, Tim (Tracy) Nerdahl, Jason Netland, Jeff (Kim) Netland and Adam Netland; 14 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her family was everything to her. She will be remembered and missed by all. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton, ND, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday, May 23, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharon, ND. Burial: Sharon Cemetery, Sharon, ND.
