Ivan Johnson, 82, of Mayville died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Sanford Medical Center in Mayville under Hospice Care of the Red River Valley. Ivan was born to Julius and Alma (Helgeson) Johnson, June 6, 1931, in Cleveland Township near Dahlen, ND. He was raised on the family farm and attended Country School #48. Ivan entered the Army in March of 1952 and was sent to Japan and Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Dolores DeMaine in 1954. He worked as a telephone cable splicer for 37 years. He started his career with Polar Telephone in Park River, ND, in 1955. He moved to Mayville in 1963 and completed his career in 1992 with Quest. Ivan was very active in the V.F.W. serving as Adjutant for several years. He was very active in the MPCG Color Guard. He also served on the board of the Goose River Heritage Center for many years. Ivan is survived by his wife, Dolores Johnson; three children - Harlan (Marlene) Johnson of Mayville, Randy (Val) Johnson of LaFayette, LA, and Katherine (Timothy) Nelson of Baudette, MN; seven grandchildren - Rachel Johnson (Todd Franks), Adam (Julie) Johnson, Jasmyne (Collin) Cormier), Alyssa (Lucas) Bernard, Kirstyn Johnson (Jake Hooper), Alyse Berggren, Ian Berggren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters - Irene Johnson, Claire Sweet, Ardis Swendseid, Evelyn Waith; and 2 brothers - Gerald Johnson and Donald Johnson. Blessed be his memory. Visitation: Will be from 1-3 PM with a Public Prayer Service at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 1:30 PM Monday, May 19, 2014 at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville. Burial: Mayville City Cemetery in Mayville.
