Arlene Judell Tastad

Arlene Judell Tastad, 81, of Mayville, ND, died Monday July 28, 2008 at Union Hospital Mayville, ND. Arlene Judell Anderson was born in Clifford, ND March 13, 1927 to Christian and Olga (Domier) Anderson and was the oldest of five sisters. Mrs. Robert (Opal) Strand, Mrs. Dorothy Amundson, Mrs. Shirley Thykeson and Mrs. Sylvia Reynolds. Arlene was raised in Portland, ND, where she attended and graduated from Portland High School. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at Bruflat Lutheran Church Portland, ND. Arlene married Herald Marvin Tastad in December 22, 1945. Herald and Arlene made their final home at Portland Junction, Portland ND where they raised six very active children. Arlene was known for her determination and super work ethic. Herald and Arlene owned and operated the Red Top drive inn formerly located in Mayville, ND. Arlene was an active member of Bruflat Lutheran Church where she participated in ladies aid, maintained many volunteer positions and held the Sunday school superintendent duties for many years. Arlene worked most of her life serving others as a waitress in various local restaurants. She retired from her working life, after more than 20 years of dedicated service, from Paula’s Steak House in Mayville, ND. Arlene loved sports of all kinds. She especially liked to watch or listen to the Minnesota Twins. Arlene will always be remembered for her organizational skills, her willingness to tackle the tough tasks and her no nonsense style of completing her many jobs at hand. All of these honorable traits continue to live and thrive within her children and grand children. Arlene is survived by her loving husband, of 62 years, Herald Tastad; children, Gregory Tastad of Argusville, ND, Deborah (Frank) Sletten of Mayville, ND, Pamela (Wade) Bertrand of Portland, ND, John Tastad of Mayville, ND, Linda Tastad of Minneapolis, MN and Mark (Becky) Tastad of Montevideo, MN; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grand children and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her infant son. Arlene was blessed with many good friends and will be truly missed by all who knew her and had the pleasure of ever meeting her. Visitation: Wednesday, July 30, 2008, from 5-7 PM at Baker Funeral Home of Mayville, and will resume one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Funeral: 1:30 PM, Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Bruflat Lutheran Church of Portland, ND. Burial: Bruflat Cemetery of Portland.
