Olga Mielke (Sonnenberg), 97, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Galesburg, ND, passed away February 11, 2014 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville. Olga was born August 20, 1916 in Vergas, MN to August and Frazine (Schultz) Sonnenberg. She grew up in Vergas and married her fishing buddy, Otto Mielke, October 5, 1940 in Grand Forks, ND. They moved to Galesburg in 1945. Otto and Olga were partners and served the Galesburg community for 30 years with the Standard Oil Co. They enjoyed 58 years together with their family, community, traveling and of course fishing. For 35 years they hosted many family gatherings at their camper trailer on Lake Ida. Olga’s greatest pleasures were to pack a lunch and spend the day in a boat with Otto or watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren blossom, each in their own personality. On a rainy afternoon or after the evening meal, she loved a game of Rummy with the grandchildren. December, 1998 Otto completed his journey here on earth when the “Fisher of Men” caught Otto in his net and judged him “A Keeper.” Olga continued to live in Galesburg and was active in her church and played cards weekly with friends Helen, Esther, Ingrid, and Marion. In 2007 she moved to Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Her family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Staff at Luther Memorial Home for the excellent care Olga received. She thoroughly enjoyed your smiles, kind words and compassion. She spoke often of the other residents and we could feel the warmth in her words that she felt for you. May God Bless You All. Olga was a member of Elm River Lutheran Church for 69 years. Her love for her church and her faith in the Lord and Savior were evident in the way she lived and her concern for others. Her journey has ended but her influence is lasting. Olga is survived by her children, Gene (Carol) Mielke of Hastings, MN, Linda (Larry) Martin of Pelican Rapids, MN, Susan Galante of Lehigh, FL and Janet (Bob) Randall of Laguna Vista, TX; 9 grandchildren, David (Trish) Mielke, Randy (MaryAnn) Martin, Matthew (Erica) Martin, Natalia (Jake) Hummel, Maria (Darin) Klabo, Gina (Jim) Mulvaney, Diana Galante, Tony (Paula) Randall and Nick (Erika) Randall; 15 great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Ryan Mielke, Ben and Mackenzie Martin, Caroline and Brooke Martin, Karon and Micah Hummel, Kennedi Klabo, Amanda Mulvaney, Destiny Galante, Devin McIntyre, Aaron Randall and Maggie and Abbie Randall. She was preceded in death by her husband Otto; brother Herman Sonnenberg; sisters, Amelia Losee and Bertha Turner; and son-in-law Robert Galante. Visitation: One hour prior to the Funeral Service. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Elm River Lutheran Church in Galesburg, ND. Burial: Elm River Lutheran Church Cemetery.
