Elgin O. Erickson, 98, of Galesburg, ND, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Elgin O. Erickson was born on May 21st, 1910, to Knut and Sigrid (Satrom) Erickson, at the family homestead near Galesburg. He farmed for decades and continued his interest in every detail until his death at 98 years of age. Elgin and his brother Paul planted many of the trees that still exist on the property. He built several of the buildings and cleverly crafted several “inventions” that made life on the farm work more efficiently. Elgin was married to Frances Ofstad on July 2, 1964 and had the happiest years of his life until her death in 1986. They wintered in Bradenton, Florida for many years where they enjoyed the sun and warmth, escaping the cold North Dakota Winters. They also traveled to Canada, Hawaii, Europe and many other places. Elgin was a philanthropist to Elm River Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, Mayville State College, St. Armands Key Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Florida, and many others because he cared so much about the future. He was very active on many boards (Elevator; Church Building Committee; Steele Co. Ins. Co.; and Farm Bureau). He received many awards and honors. He was the oldest of the Satrom generation to survive and be present at the most recent Satrom Reunion. He never missed one of the reunions which have been held every three years since 1928. Elgin is survived by a beloved sister-in-law Sigrid Erickson of Mayville; nieces and nephews, Marilyn (Chet) Johnson of Salt Lake City, UT; Heather (Cevan) LeSieur of Salt Lake City, UT; Holly Johnson of Logan UT; Sandra (Paul) Helland of Mott, ND; Gail Holland of Vancouver, WA; Nancy (Bill) DeMarche of Delray Beach, FL; Doris Jensen of Rochester, MN; Dr. Jeffrey (Mary) Jensen of Byron, MN; Debra (Nick) Morris of Madison, WI; Andrea (Jim) Janousek of International Falls, MN; Gretchen Palm of Navarre, FL; and Orlin Ofstad of Britt, MN.
