Marilyn F Jess

July 13, 1931 — June 18, 2008

On Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, Marilyn F. Jess, 76 of Hope, ND, passed away peacefully from this world into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Marilyn was born on July 13, 1931 at Hope to Herbert and Zelda (LaBelle) Matthiesen. After graduating from high school in 1949, she moved to Portland, ND and worked in the café/bakery. It was there that she met Randolph (Duffy) Berg. They were married in Climax, MN in 1950. Duffy died 1953. In 1954 Marilyn married Arthur Steinke and together they had four children. She worked at the Hope Creamery, Hope Lanes, and Ken’s Lounge. In 1971 Marilyn married Daniel (George) Jess and moved to Page, ND to help him farm. They later retired to Hope where George died in 1999. Marilyn enjoyed growing flowers, especially Peonies and African Violets. She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and liked to go uptown and play cards with her lifelong friends. Marilyn is survived by four children, Daniel Steinke of West Fargo, ND, Jane Brodie of LaPort, TX, Sheila Hirchert of West Fargo, and Gary Steinke of Fargo, ND; She also leaves behind one sister, Marie (Leonard) Johnson of Turtle Lake, ND and one brother, Charles (Marko) Matthiesen of Barstow, CA; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Geroge, her parents, and her sister Mae. The family would like to thank all of the people in Hope who made it possible for Marilyn to stay in her home as long as possible. Also, thank you to Mayville Hospice and Steele County Social Services for their tender care. SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Page, ND VISITATION: Will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the church and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church BURIAL: Hope cemetery, Hope, ND (Lindsey-Carlson Funeral Home, Page, ND)
