Richard Gene Forsgren

Richard Forsgren, 68, of Mayville ND, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center Fairview at Minneapolis, MN. He was born on August 3, 1944 in Rapid City, SD to Kenneth and Pearl (Hanson) Forsgren. Richard attended and graduated from the Mayville High School and continued this schooling at NDSU in Fargo, ND. Richard served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1962 to 1966. On August 14th, 1966 Richard married Eldra Pederson at Our Savior Lutheran Church in rural Wales, ND. After their marriage, the couple resided in Mayville. Richard was an owner of Mayville Motors, working with his father and brother. Richard was a member of the Mayville Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for 50 years. Rick served on the Mayville City Council for 39 years and helped to start the Traill County Economic Development Committee, which he served as the director. Rick sang with the Trailblazers and performed in multiple variety shows. He loved to write plays and acted in many plays as a member of the Hatton Community Theatre and at Mayville State University. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and his time at Golden Lake. He was a fabulous and devoted husband, father and grandpa. Richard is survived by his wife, Eldra of Mayville; children, Jeanine (Chuck) Arnold and David (Laurel) Forsgren; grandchildren, Levi and Isak Arnold; brother, Roger (Judy) Forsgren; niece, Lisa Damboise; nephew, Troy Forsgren and an aunt, Helen Hokenson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Pearl Forsgren and his uncles, Howard and Ralph Forsgren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Music Department of Mayville State University, the Building Fund of Mayville Lutheran Church or Caring Bridge. Visitation: 5-7 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2013 with a prayer service at 6:30 PM followed by a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, Mayville, ND. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Memorial Service: 10:30 AM Friday, July 26, 2013 at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
