Helen T. Holum, 91, of Mayville, ND, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Union Hospital in Mayville. She was born on November 8, 1916, in Nekoma, ND, the daughter of Henry and Thea (Sabie) Hefta. She graduated from Nekoma High School and later received a Standard Teaching Degree from Mayville Normal School in 1938. Helen returned to Nekoma and taught two years in rural schools. On March 21, 1940, she married Clemet I. Holum in Nekoma. After their marriage, the couple moved to Mayville. She taught elementary education in the Mayville school system for several years in the late 1960’s. Helen was a member of the Mayville Lutheran Church, Pioneer Daughters and the Goose River Heritage Center. She is survived by her two daughters, Cleone (Richard) Whelan of Crystal, ND and Lucia (Duane) Jacobson of Leeds, ND; one son Lowell (Carol) Holum of Byron, MN; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; one sister, Inez (Don) Manbeck of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Viola Hefta of Owasso, OK and Ordale Hefta of Peoria, AZ; one brother-in-law, Sherman Moen of Mahtomedi, MN. Helen is preceded in death by her husband in 1991, parents, four sisters and three brothers. Visitation: Wednesday, April 23, 2008, from 5-7 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
