Marlys Johnson 82, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Galesburg, ND passed away Saturday July 20, 2013 at Sanford Palliative Care Center in Fargo. Marlys Bernice was born June 9, 1931 to Melvin and Mathilda (Hanson) Olstad. Marlys was raised on her parents farm near Galesburg. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. In October 1951, she married Alf Johnson; together they began farming; raising crops, livestock, milking cows, and also raising five children. Marlys was a lifelong member of Elm River Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, always wanting to know what they were doing in school and other activities. Marlys always kept track of things on the farm, especially at harvest time because she liked hauling grain. Marlys is survived by five children: Shirley (Alan) Ray of Tilton, NH, Patty Johnson (Andy Varriano) of Tilton, NH, Randy (Melody) Johnson, Michael, (Bonnie) Johnson, Mark (Colleen) Johnson, all of Galesburg, ND, nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Walter and Vi Rindy of Mayville, ND, and sister-in-law Hilma Hammer of Tacoma, WA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Melvin Jr., and sister Betty Marie. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Service: 10:00 AM Monday, August 12, 2013 at Elm River Lutheran Church, Galesburg, ND. Burial: Elm River Cemetery, Galesburg, ND.
