Berniece Isabelle Holden, 87, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks. Berniece was born February 26, 1926 in Lake Park, MN, the daughter of Oscar and Mathilda (Marshall) Moen. Berniece moved to Ayr, ND with her family in 1926. She attended Ayr School for eleven and one half years, graduating from Page (ND) High School in 1945. Berniece played on the Ayr Rifles high school girls basketball team that won five State Championships from 1939 – 1944. She also worked with her parents in the Page Hotel and Café. On June 5, 1949, she married Sidney Holden in Page. Together they owned and operated the Page Hotel and Café until 1964 when they made their home on his parents’ farm east of Page. They farmed until retiring in 1984. They moved to Grand Forks in September 2000. Berniece was active in the Page community. She was a member of the Page School Mothers, American Lutheran Church Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also kept the books for the Page boys and girls basketball teams for several years. Sidney and Berniece were members of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Page. Her friends called her ‘Toots’ and she enjoyed spending time with her family, making lefse, basketball, pinochle, quilting, and scrapbooking. Berniece will be deeply missed by her children Ronald (Linda), Bozeman, MT; Robin, Grand Forks; Diane, Grand Forks; grandchildren Amanda (Mike) Dredge, Bozeman, MT; Lucas, Huntington Beach, CA; Adrienne, Grand Forks; Ariel, Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Melvin, Arvid, Mildred, Lucille, Delores, and Betty; and grandson, Lance. Visitation: 5-7 PM on Friday, June 21, 2013 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Page and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service.
