Henry Crane

James “Henry” Crane, 90, of Cummings ND, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Sanford Health of Hillsboro, ND. James Henry Crane was born on March 31, 1922 in Woodhull, Illinois, the son of James and Nelle (Sandquist) Crane. He attended Stickney Country Grade School and graduated from high school in Woodhull. Henry grew up and farmed with his parents until they moved in 1944 and purchased a farm near Cummings, ND. On November 26, 1948 Henry married Phoebe M. Wang in Hendrum, MN. The couple continued to farm and for several years, Henry worked for Implement Companies in Illinois during the winter time. The couple started wintering in Mesa, AZ in 1955. Henry retired from farming in 1986 and continued to winter in Arizona. Henry was active at the Highland Lutheran Church near Cummings; serving on the church board and as president of the cemetery board for many years. He was also a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. He is preceded in death by his wife: Phoebe on August 11, 2000; parents; and sister: Carolyn Zimmerman. Henry is survived by his sister: Virginia Thomson of Grand Forks, ND; his nieces and nephews: Richard James of Cornville, AZ, Douglas (Susan) James of Seattle, WA, David (Jennifer) Zimmerman of Boise, ID, William (Susan) Zimmerman of Grand Forks, ND, Gerry James of East Lansing, MI, Faye (Richard) Pope of Aztec, NM, Nancy (Charles) Young of Grand Forks, ND and Lorrie (Wesley) Oien of Erskine, MN; and special friend: Liz Ostrander of Moline, IL. Memorials may be sent to the Highland Cemetery, Hospice of the Red River Valley or a charity of the donor’s choice. Visitation: 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, March 22, 2013 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Cummings, ND. Burial: Highland Lutheran Church Cemetery, in the spring.
