Donald Eugene Johnson

Donald E. Johnson, 84, of Mayville, ND, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Donald Eugene Johnson was born October 3, 1928 the son of Henning and Ida (Peterson) Johnson in Mayville, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at AAL Lutheran Church, rural Hillsboro. Don attended rural school at Norway #2. After his schooling, Don worked on the family farm East of Mayville. On September 5, 1964, he married Amy Lou Van Wechel in the Gran Lutheran Church. The couple resided on the Johnson family farm. Don continued to farm until retiring in 1995. He entered the Luther Memorial Home in 2008. Donald was a member of Gran Lutheran Church. After retiring from farming, he took up scroll sawing and many items he made are in the Luther Memorial Home. Don made a dome clock that took over 400 hours to make. He enjoyed country music and traveling throughout the United States on family vacations. He is survived by his son: Mark (Dawn) Johnson of Cummings, ND; daughter: Rita (Monte) Niess of Hillsboro, ND; 5 grandchildren: Danielle, Kelly Jo, Alex, Dusten and Julie; and a sister: Marlys (Richard) Holt of Mayville, ND. Don was preceded in death by his wife; Amy in 2004 and his parents. Visitation: Will be on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 3 ~ 5 PM at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Monday, November 19, 2012 at Gran Lutheran Church in rural Mayville, ND. Burial: Gran Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
