Ragna (Roni) Guttormson

Ragna (Roni) Guttormson, 87, of Portland, ND died Saturday, July 28, 2012 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley with primary care by her family. Ragna Clara Ambroson was born February 25, 1925 in Clifford, ND the daughter of Ole and Helga (Brovold) Ambroson. She was baptized and confirmed in Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford. After graduating from High School she attended Akers Business College and attained her business degree. On December 20, 1944 she married Marvel Guttormson in Astoria, Oregon. Roni worked for a number of years for Dr. Moscow in Grand Forks, ND and after moving to Portland, she worked at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, as a Nurse’s Aide for many years. Roni was a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland. She was a Sunday School teacher all of her adult life. She had a great love and understanding for the youth. Roni was also active in Woman’s Church organizations. She sang, played and traveled with her family, who were called the “After Glow Gospel Singers.” She is survived by her three sons: Leslie (Linda) of Lago Vista, TX, Donald (Bonnie) of Roseau, MN and David (Susan) of Hoyt Lakes, MN; two daughters: Roxanne Madrinich of St. Paul, MN and Mimi (Billy) Balstad of Portland; 13 grandchildren: Marcy, Thad, Tyler, Chad, Dana, Lars, Bjorn, Lani, Ryan, Amanda, Jason, Tara and Joshua; 19 great grandchildren; and one brother: Carl Ambroson. Roni was preceded in death by her parents; husband on January 11, 2006; seven sisters: Helen, Hazel, Ruth, Leona, Eunice, Ida and Adeline; and five brothers: Oliver, Sydney, Marvin, Clifford and Alvin; and one son-in-law: Steven Madrinich. Visitation: Will be on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 5 ~ 7 PM at the Baker Funeral Home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, ND.
