Merlyn Johnson

Merlyn Johnson, 84, of Mayville, ND died Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. He was born December 18, 1927 in Wold Township, Traill County, Rural Cummings, ND to John M. and Ellen (Anderson) Johnson. He attended rural school in Wold Township and graduated from Mayville High School in 1945. After his schooling, he started working on the family farm. Merlyn married Ruth Elaine Schultz in Hillsboro, ND and two children were born to this union. In 1957, He married Ruth Marie Nolte in Moorhead, MN. Merlyn continued to farm until the early 1990’s. He was a member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Mayville. Merlyn loved agriculture, especially raising potatoes, which started as a 4-H project. He was a firm believer in soil conservation and being a good steward of the land. Merlyn loved his family and worked very hard to provide for them. Merlyn is survived by his wife: Ruth of Mayville, ND; two daughters: Nancy (Doug) Bounds of Jamestown, ND and Barbara (Mark) Soderlund of Lakeville, MN; five sons: Mark (Jill) Johnson of Boulder, CO, Dean (Lisa) Johnson of Caddo Mills, TX, David (Annette) Dunning of Park River, ND, Glenn (Susan) Johnson of Mayville, ND and Luther Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and one sister: Doris Maurer of Larimore, ND. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Hazel Lehn. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Visitation: Will be from 5–7 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday. Burial: Carlson Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
