Ruda Hanson

Ruda Clarissa Hanson, age 99 years, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND. Ruda was born on May 17, 1912, on a farm West of Portland to Martin and Marie (Haugen) Amb. She grew up on the farm and attended grade school in rural Portland and graduated from Bruflat Academy in 1931. She attended Mayville State College and received her 2 year Teaching Certificate. She taught 1 year at Viking # 11, 3 years at Viking # 1, and ½ year at Garfield # 3, all of rural Portland. Ruda and Henry were married Dec. 7, 1937, at the Aurdal Parsonage in Portland. The couple purchased the Sam Anderson farm in 1945 and resided there with their 5 children. They moved to Portland for their retirement years in the early 1970’s. Her love for life revolved around her family, her faith, music, and many birthday parties. She was active in Aurdal and Valley Free Lutheran Church and participated as Sunday school teacher, choir director, singing at various functions, playing her auto harp and bible studies. She sang in a trio for more than 55 years. Her love of sports was evident when she was voted “fan of the year”. She is survived by her children: Merle (Bernadine) Hanson of Minnetonka, MN, Mavis (Curtis) Lande of Grand Forks, ND, Rosemary (Richard) Brown of Burnsville, MN, Nada (Richard) Anderson of Elk River, MN, and Lauren (Wanda) Hanson of Portland, ND; 16 grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren; two sisters: Edna Cook of Lehigh Acres, FL and Murlene Marotzke of Portland, ND; and three sisters-in-law: Delores Amb of Portland, ND, Annie Amb of Mayville, ND, and Eileen Amb of Portland, ND. Ruda was preceded in death by her husband Henry, her parents, two sisters: Claudine Thompson and Delores Amb and three brothers: Thomas Amb, Alvin Amb and Ingolf Amb. Visitation: 5-7 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel, Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Valley Free Lutheran Church in Portland. Interment: Aurdal Cemetery
