Robert “Bob” Louis von Ruden, 80, of rural Hatton, ND died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at his daughter’s home in Steele, ND, surrounded by his family. Bob was born January 13, 1931, the son of Martin and Mary (Gorman) von Ruden, rural Hatton, ND. He attended school at Morgan Township and graduated from Mayville High School in 1949. Bob joined the US Air Force and served his country from September 13, 1951 until October 20, 1954. One of the highlights of serving overseas was spending time in Rome and meeting Pope Pius VII. Bob married Shirley Ann Butler on September 13, 1954. They eventually made their home on the family farm, rural Hatton. Bob loved to farm and during the winters he would work at the Hanson Meat Market. He was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and served on several township and community boards. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, card playing, spending time with family, traveling- especially “trips on a tankful.” He also enjoyed his trips to Arkansas to spend time with his brother and sisters. Bob is survived by six daughters, Pamela (Craig) Engel of Grand Forks, ND, Penny (Robert) Kern of Green River, WY, Peggy (Kenneth) Mondry of Fargo, ND, Mary Ellen (Terry) Strand of Steele, ND, Maria Nybo and Marilyn (Rick) Chandler of Thompson, ND; one son, Robert (Loree) of Waunakee, WI; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Norgaard of Rochester, MN and Maryln McCoy of Lincoln, NE; brother, Dale (June) von Ruden of Pismo Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Grace von Ruden of Andover, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley in 2002; son, Ronald; one brother; two sisters and three brothers-in-law. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Monday, October 31, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mayville, ND. Visitation: 5-7 PM Sunday, October 30, 2011 with a Rosary at 6:45 PM and prayer service to follow at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mayville, ND; visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial: Mayville City Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
