Erland Simengaard

Erland Simengaard, 84, of Mayville, ND, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Erland was born October 11, 1926 at the family farm home near Hillsboro, ND, the son of Ole and Olga (Kaldor) Simengaard. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Aal Lutheran Church. Erland attended rural grade school and later graduated from the Mayville High School in 1945. On December 16, 1948 he married Joan Oksoll in Hillsboro. The couple resided on the Oksoll family farm. There were two children born to this union; Harold and Barbara. He was a member of the Mayville Lutheran Church. Erland was very proud of his family and loved to farm. He enjoyed games of pinochle with friends and also traveling thoughout the United States, visiting 49 states. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Barbara; two sisters, Alice and Marie, and a brother Olaf. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Mayville; son, Harold (Alice) of Portland; granddaughter, Jill of West Fargo, ND; grandsons, Paul (Krista) of Fergus Falls, MN and Michael of Grand Forks, ND and his brother, Peder of Hillsboro. Erland is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to donor’s choice. Visitation: 5-7 PM Wednesday, August 17, 2011 with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Interment: Mayville City Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
