Stephen M. Winger, 55, of Gwinner, ND, formerly of Mayville, ND, died Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his home in Gwinner. Steve was born August 4, 1955 to Bernard and Josephine (Walter) Winger in Mayville, ND. He graduated from Mayville-Portland High School in 1973 and attended college at Mayville State University. He lived and worked various jobs in Mayville until 1989 when he moved to El Paso, Texas. In 1990 he married Ruth Cook and together they had two sons. Steve worked at Ketronics in TX for 13 years. He recently moved back to North Dakota. Steve enjoyed baseball and football, especially the Vikings. He was a good football player, having played in college. He loved music and collecting hats from numerous places throughout the years. Steve is survived by two sons: Nathan and Nicholas Winger and their mother Ruth, all of El Paso, TX; four sisters: Joy Ronningen of Mayville, Kathy (Darol) LaChapelle of Ada, MN, Fran Gordon of Kent, WA and Helen Chandler of Jackson, MS; three brothers: David Winger of Kansas City, MO, Gary (Jacquie) Winger of Mayville, and Paul (Julie) Winger of Portland, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice Bachmeier; two brothers-in-law, Bob Gordon and Al Ronningen; and sister-in-law, Dolly Winger. A memorial service will be on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, July 12, 2011 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville. Interment will be at the Mayville Cemetery.
