Eileen Ardyce (Johnson) Lyng, 76, Clifford, N.D., died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, N.D. She was born Sept. 7, 1934 at Sangor, in Oliver County, N.D., on what is now known as the Cross Ranch. She was adopted by Edwin and Garda Johnson of Mayville when she was three years old. Eileen graduated from Mayville High School in 1952. She worked at Hegge Grocery in Mayville until 1953, when she married Duane Lyng of rural Mayville. They bought a farm south of Mayville and have lived there since. She is survived by her husband, Duane, of Clifford; one son, Alan (Denise), Carlton, Minn.; four daughters, Judy (Gary) Nysveen, Cummings, N.D.; Kay Umlauf, Hankinson, N.D.; Betty (Kevin) Tweed, Binford, N.D.; Lisa (Tony) Morphis, Grand Forks, N.D.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joan (Wes) Fager in Wisconsin. Eileen was a member of the Mayville chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as its worthy matron. She was a member of the Mayville auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and served as its president. She was also a member of Mayville Lutheran Church, where she participated in ladies aid and circle. Eileen especially enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, sewing and quilting, knitting and helping with farming. She and Duane were avid travelers and toured many countries as well as many states. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday, April 1, 2011 at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Visitation: 5-7 PM Thursday, March 31, 2011 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at Mayville Lutheran Church. Interment: Mayville City Cemetery, in the spring.
